Focus: Mud Terrain

Mud-terrain is an unambiguously specialised tyre for heavy going — mud, deep ruts, snow, rocks. Maxxis MT764 OWL POR is one of them. Large tread blocks with deep voids clear themselves and dig in where an ordinary tyre only slips. You pay for it on the road: more noise, less comfort, longer braking distances and higher fuel consumption. If most of your kilometres are on tarmac, this is more tyre than you need.

I have used Big horns for Mahindra Bolero since 2014. Have used 2 sets of 4 tires. Covered 160000 kms from them. 70% on asphalted roads and 30% off road in gravel and mud. Driven through roughest terrain with only 2wheel drive, due to its exceptional grip did not face any issue. There were hardly 4 punctures in 2 sets of tires from Maxxis throughout their life time. Unfortunately now these tires are not available in the market here in India due to ban on imports and Maxxis India is not manufacturing them here.
I will any day recommend these tires. Only con was road noise is slight high.

spend more than 50% off road on farm impressed with traction used good grippy sidewall useful climbing out of steep muddy farm track. not sure how to compare noise they are ok but all mud terrain tryes do whine depending on type of sealed surface compared to AT tyres. These tyres are very posiuive traction on tarseal
They are good strong tyres and probably would buy them again. Having sipes on the lugs I think makes safer ice road driving. I think sipes add quite a lot on the icey roads. Offroad sipes not needed but good clearing lugs are. I able to use 2wd a lot more before needing to flicking into 4wd. I happy with my choice of tyre.
Regarding wear I not had them long enough to comment.
I ranked up to 9 as not sure what the perfect tyre is but they bloody good tyres for my application.
