Technical information
Focus: Standard-sport
A standard tyre with an added dose of sportiness — Vredestein Sportrac 5 is one of them. The basis stays balanced: comfort, quietness and tread life at the level of an ordinary tyre. The manufacturer adds a stiffer sidewall or a grippier compound, so the response is sharper at speed and through corners. The ideal is that none of it comes out of the tyre's mileage.

What owners say
I am extremely disappointed in the Vredestein Sportrac 5 on my NA Miata. This tire has a very elastic feel in steering effort and response. The rear axle feels significantly delayed and lacks confidence. The tire has more than enough grip, but it lacks the feedback needed to feel how quickly the car will turn in resulting in multiple steering corrections to go maintain the desired path/pace through a corner. Even on center the tire feels vague and requires frequent corrections. Further disappointment comes from the underdamped ride with multiple secondary oscillations for each bump. Uniformity is also an issue as this tire has the worst level of the Miata's infamous 65 mph vibrations of any tires I've had on this car.
The only strengths I've found are low noise levels and good wet grip. There poor steering feel makes this grip just as unsatisfying as in dry grip, but at least these is no surprise loss of grip and progressiveness in wet conditions.
I will not keep these tires long enough to assess wear. This is the sort of tire I wish would wear faster so I can justify replacing them sooner. Overall I feel this is a low quality tire when considering the underdamped ride and vibrations.
I run these tires on my Opel Astra K Sports Tourer for more than 100,000 km mixed driving (motorways, roads and streets) and although I'm not calm and slow driver they still show excellent performance! Quite good dry braking, grip and handling, excellent aquaplaning behavior and wear resistance (after the above mileage the treads are 4mm). The small drawback is that they behave not so well on wet braking and grip, but still reasonable. As far as they are summer type, for cold, snowy and icy weather I recomend changing with winter tires or just staying at home with glass of red wine.
I purchased these tires to replace the original Goodyear Efficient Grip SUV tires which were scandalous, especially on roundabouts in the wet. The Vredstain are a whole other world, incredibly stable especially in the wet and dry. Excellent comfort and mileage. Too bad about the increase in fuel consumption and the fact that they are useless in the snow, chains are needed. Otherwise excellent. Unfortunately they haven't been made like all good things for a while now.
My first sporty tyre and it was marvelous completely changed handling of the car. I felt much more in control in all conditions. Wet braking is staggering, I would never think I could stop so fast in greasy conditions. I feel much safer behind the wheel and have much more fun driving, really recommend it.
Very prone to understeer in dry & wet conditions, possibly the worst tyre I've ever bought. Don't handle aqua-plaining that well but in a small & light car many tyres struggle here. Getting them to spin is easy even when moving let alone a standing start. ABS triggers under heavy braking consistently. Compared to my previous Bridgestones Potenza RE040 the Sportrac 5's are a wobbly mess. Wear seems fine, expect them to last a while although I can't wait to get rid of them.
