In addition to well-known German motoring magazines, sometimes interesting tire tests also appear from lesser-known magazines. Less well-known in our country, of course, since not many motorists probably look for tests in Finnish.
Finnish magazine Moottori tested mid-range summer tires this time. They selected eight brands from well-known manufacturers for the test. They compared the performance of the summer tires mainly with the results of Nokian and Hankook tires, which in this test represent the "premium" category even though they do not officially belong there yet.

These summer tires either represent the manufacturer itself or belong to the group of another well-known tire brand.
Nokian, Hankook, Yokohama are in the first quality position in the manufacturer's portfolio. BFGoodrich belongs to the Michelin group, Fulda under GoodYear, Gislaved and Barum under the wings of the Continental-group.
MOMO tires are a bit of an outsider, as they are an independent brand but have their tires manufactured in another manufacturer's factory - specifically Sailun. That's why the country of manufacture is listed as Vietnam. However, they are the third most expensive tire of all the tires tested.

The main focus was on wet roads. Braking distance, lap time and direct aquaplaning were tested. A braking test was carried out on dry roads and external road noise was evaluated to assess comfort.
The winner of the test was the Nokian Hakka Blue 3 (which is more or less the rule in Finnish tests), followed by the BFGoodrich Advantage in second place and behind them in third place was the Hankook Ventus Prime 4.
Overall test results and final ranking of summer tires:

The winner of the 205/55 R16 summer tire test is the Nokian Hakka Blue 3, which became the overall test winner with a score of 9.2. It has the shortest braking distances on both dry and wet roads and is the quietest. The tire also showed good performance on the wet track and in direct aquaplaning it stayed in the middle of the field. Overall, it is a summer tire with balanced driving characteristics and offers pleasant driving comfort due to its low noise level.
BFGoodrich came in second with a score of 9.0. It beat Hankook but was only ahead of it twice in all disciplines – on the track and in direct aquaplaning. Even that was enough to beat it by 0.1 point. The tire is good in handling on the wet track and in aquaplaning it did not beat only Fulda. In braking it still held third place. Being under Michelin pays off, because this way BFGoodrich also benefits from Michelin's technical innovations.
Hankook was unlucky not to finish in first place in any discipline, which takes away points from it. The score of 8.9 places it in third place. It is in the top places in all tests, even in noise, it is the third quietest, which was still Hankook's weakness. However, where it needs to work is in handling aquaplaning. It finished in last place, which is not good advertising. Overall, however, Hankook delivers a very good and balanced performance that every motorist will appreciate.
In fourth place is Fulda Eco Control 2 with 8.7 points. It mostly stayed in the middle of the field, but in the case of aquaplaning it reached the highest speed on still water, which earned it first place in this tested discipline. It did not surprise negatively or positively either. The price balances the performance and the fact that it belongs to GoodYear also adds pluses to the rating.
Yokohama, in fifth place with a score of 8.6, alternated with Fulda in the tests. They were breathing on each other's backs until Yokohama fell in aquaplaning. It did not catch up to Fulda, so it was placed behind it. Yokohama is a popular brand in our country, perhaps a little underestimated. It has strong competition in Hankook, but with more marketing support, Hankook could slowly catch up. Yokohama has good rolling resistance, which can save motorists expensive fuel.
Gislaved summer tires are not very well known in our country. They finished in sixth place in the test with 8.4 points. These Scandinavian tires, which already belong to Continental, are exported only to some countries, from where they are also bought to Slovakia. They pleasantly surprised with their quietness, finishing in second place behind Nokian. In other disciplines, they were more in the second half of the field. However, their performance is balanced and they rank among mid-economy class tires.
We were pleased with the presence of the Barum tire in the test. Although it finished in seventh place with a score of 8.3 in some tests, it achieved a good result. We are talking about mastering aquaplaning, where it finished in second place. It still managed to stay in the middle of the field in terms of noise, but in other tests it was no longer able to be better. Its performance is more towards a better budget, but the price is more favorable compared to the competition.
The latest summer tire MOMO with a score of 8.1 is more for drivers who want an interesting, rarely used tire with a sports history. It did not convince much in the test, its performance was not enough for the others. Although it overtook Yokohama and Hankook in aquaplaning, other negative results pushed it to the very tail of the tested eight. The high price also does not make it an attractive tire.

If you look at the test results in more detail, you will see that the differences between the individual tires are not huge. All tires were from the same class - medium. And this was reflected in the differences. Hankook and Nokian are probably the most famous brands on the list, but Fulda with BFGoodrich, Baruma Gislaved have premium manufacturers behind them and therefore benefit from their innovations, which, although they come only after a few years, will certainly help in increasing driving safety.
