Testing was conducted on a Hyundai Kona EV.

The tires were subjected to wet and dry handling tests, braking tests and aquaplaning resistance tests. In addition, the publication measured rolling resistance and conducted a range test to determine the real-world impact on a vehicle's range. The results showed that in extreme cases, tire choice can affect a vehicle's range by up to 70 kilometers (43 miles).

One of the most interesting findings was that the Hankook iON evo, specifically designed for electric vehicles, claimed the overall victory, but standard tires from Continental and Goodyear came in close behind. This suggests that the difference between specialized electric vehicle tires and high-quality standard tires is minimal when it comes to balancing the needs of safety and efficiency.

Testing on dry roads.

The Hankook iON evo achieved the shortest braking distance on dry roads at 33.6 meters, with the Continental close behind at 34.5 meters. The Goodride Solmax 1 needed a significantly longer distance, at 37.8 meters, showing the safety gap between the premium and cheaper options.

In the dry handling test, Hankook came out on top with an average speed of 92.8 km/h, followed by Continental with 91.9 km/h and Goodyear with 91.1 km/h. Goodride again came last with 88.2 km/h, confirming its limited cornering ability.

Testing on wet roads.

On wet roads, Continental came in first with a braking distance of 39.4 meters, just ahead of Hankook with 39.6 meters. The gap with the last Goodride increased to 48.7 meters, a 23% increase that can be critical in emergency situations.

In the wet handling test, Hankook came out on top with 74.4 km/h, just ahead of Continental with 74.1 km/h. Goodyear held on to third place, while Falken e.Ziex dropped to second to last despite its specific design for electric vehicles.

Wet road handling and comfort:

  • Wet lap : Hankook was fastest (12.45 s), followed by Continental and Yokohama. Goodride was slowest (13.03 s).
  • Aquaplaning resistance (straight): Firestone performed best (80.1 km/h), Hankook was second (74.8 km/h). Yokohama lost grip first (63.7 km/h).
  • Aquaplaning resistance (cornering): Firestone dominated again (3.02 m/s²), closely followed by Hankook. Yokohama continued to have problems with water drainage.
  • Noise: The quietest was Yokohama (68.7 dB). The noisiest were Continental and Firestone (over 72 dB).
  • Subjective comfort: Goodyear received the best rating (8 points). Most premium brands (Hankook, Continental, Michelin, Falken) received 7 points. Goodride had a significantly lower rating (5 points).
