Hankook Kinergy 4S2

<p>First All Weather tire I've driven on. Used on a VW Jetta almost entirely for city driving.
You'll get maybe 28k miles out of them if you fail to rotate them, probably twice that if you rotate them properly. They are a great fun tire for a light car and provide plenty of traction year round in all weather conditions. They provide stable traction as long as you don't push your car too hard into severe understeer conditions or pretend you are driving an actual winter tire. If you've driven on winter tires previously they simply won't be as good but are infinitely better than all season tires on a fwd car in the snow.
Once the circumferential grooves are gone your ice/snow directional traction reduces significantly and you'll likely notice road noise increases significantly by this point as well.
Don't think I'd use these on an SUV - but maybe the 4S2 X is better since it is desired for SUVs?</p><p>Much better for winter driving than the two all(3)-season Continental ContiTouring and Pirelli P4s I've driven on previously.</p>

Got these tires (225/50/R17) roughly 3.5 years ago and it is now coming to the end of its life after 55000+ km here in south-western Germany. I did not really use it in heavy snow or anything, just the light snow and cool temperatures we usually get. These are superb tires. In the dry, in colder weather and in the wet it is absolutely came through. I sometimes took the on-ramp (einfahrt) curves to the autobahn at over 85 kph in a big Mercedes s213 wagon (RWD) and it showed no sign of understeer or oversteer. it just gripped and went. Never once had problems with breaking or aquaplaning or anything like that. Fuel efficiency is also really good (saw no difference to Bridgestone turanza t005 summer tires I had before) and it is mostly quiet. I am sure Michelin/Pirelli/Continental are a bit better in certain areas, but the Hankook 4S2s were at least 25 euros cheaper per corner, so the value is spectacular. I would absolutely buy them again BUT I am very curious to try the Bridgestone Turanza 6 all season which now seem to be almost the same price as these OR the new Hankook ION FlexClimate.

Purchased the 4S2s pitched as 'upper mid-priced' but comparatively good all-year-round performer according to prior reviews. Was temped by the Vredestein Quatrac Pro at only a couple of quid more, but decided that I fancied the 4S2s tread pattern.
The 4S2s feel fine. I'm no boy racer but 630lb ft of torque via 3.0TDI Quattro transmission provides awesome roundabout exits!
So performance for an all season tyre appears good. However, ....and this is a BIG however: These boots are doing around 12% less miles to the gallon. Now, over a predicted 28,000miles that equates to around 75 more gallons of diesel. Even at an average £1.50 per litre that means these tyres may cost me more than the price of a set of new 4S2s at todays prices...fitted and balanced...over their useable life!
I think that Ill be going back to try Vreds if the motor is still with me in 3 yrs!
My history of tyres for this motor was as follows:
Vred Ultrac's (Sessanta and Vorti) and I couldn't fault them as a long lasting summer tyre.
I went budget for a set of Summer Nankang AS2+ but they turned out to be just as expensive per mile (lasted 75% of the Vred mileage for 75% of the cost). These also developed worryingly long circumferential splits on all inner sidewalls (thankfully didn't fail but neither the retailer nor manufacturer gave a sh!t about my complaint).

I chose these tyres for my "farm vehicle" which gets used only for transporting everything you wouldn't put in your nice car. At about 60€ apiece they were the best compromise between price and quality. Payload often exceeds 400kg and the car sees mud regularly. So far, the Hankooks performed very well both on- and offroad, in dry and wet. We only had snow once, and they performed better than any other all-season tyre I ever had (which would be about 6-7 different makes). Winter tyres would obviously be better in snow and ice, but since this car only does about 5-7k miles per year, these tyres suit it well. So far so good, would certainly buy them again!
