Technical information
Focus: Sport
With sport tyres, grip in every situation is what decides — under hard acceleration, under braking, in the dry and in the wet. Kumho PS91 ECSTA belongs to this group. Stability at higher speeds and precision through corners come on top of that. One thing drivers often underestimate when buying: grip comes from a softer compound, and a softer compound wears faster. Where a standard tyre covers roughly 40,000 km, a sport tyre manages about 20,000 to 30,000 km — and considerably less with a sharper driving style or a heavier, more powerful car.

What owners say

Tyre were used on a 470 HP RWD 1.7 t car. For the money, this is a very good budget tyre for spirited driving and even occasional track use. The tyre offers decent grip, a stiff sidewall, and responsive handling that gives you confidence when pushing the car on twisty roads or during a track day.

What impressed me the most was its durability. Compared to some other performance-oriented tyres, the tread lasted quite a long time, which makes it an attractive option if you're looking for a balance between performance and running costs. Wet weather performance was also perfectly acceptable. I never experienced any unpleasant surprises and always felt comfortable driving in the rain.

However, once the tyre reached around 60-50% tread depth, its characteristics changed noticeably. Dry grip dropped significantly, and the tyre no longer delivered the same confidence and performance it had when new. This was especially noticeable during more aggressive driving, where the reduced grip became quite apparent. For my application I did not mind as first half of the tyre I used for track days and fast road driving and second half was used for doing skids and enjoying RWD car as you should :D

Noise levels were never an issue and remained low throughout its lifespan.

Overall, I would recommend this tyre to anyone looking for a budget-friendly performance tyre that can handle spirited road driving and the occasional track day. Just be aware that its dry performance deteriorates quite a bit once the tread wears down to around half of its original depth.

Bought my 2015 f10 520d with 210k kms 2 years ago had these tyres but *star branded OE bmw, the car now has nearly 290k kms and these tyres are still around 4.5mm of tread left after more than 80.000 kilometers of driving, all 4 tyres are the same and i rotate them roughly every 15.000kms but i am impressed by wear of these tyres even tho its a 2liter diesel, the previous owner bought these tyres i would personally never buy tyres like these for a 2.0diesel 5 series but overall the wear is really good, noise has always been relatively quiet and comfort is ok, altho its a luxury line 5 series so i cannot really comment on comfort much as ive only had winter tyres on to compare and they are about the same, fuel consumption has always been around 6.5l to 7l per 100km in this car with these tyres, they have been good in the wet also never felt the car struggle even when giving it some power in the rain, im not sure how the normal ps91 is compared to the *star branded OE but i have been quite impressed with these tyres, especially the wear, as i drove maybe 5000km on winter tyres and everything else was done on these ps91*
When these tyres are done i will def put some touring tyres on the car as i feel these UUHP are not really needed.
Cant comment too much about handling as ive never really pushed the car just driven fast in straight line.
Need a lot of heat to get good grip
Put a set of these on my Mercedes V Class, very disappointed with the wear, as only lasted 10k on the rears & possibly 12k on the fronts, I expected at least 15k as not a budget brand!
Had Pirelli scorpion verde originally on my SUV which were a high performing tires. Had to change due to wear and decided to give the Kumho a try. Ill be brief, this is a very sluggish tire which will make your car feel heavy and demand more power during acceleration. If you’re looking for performance tires this isnt the one. This is more of a day to day commute tire.
